MID-CAREER ARTIST SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT, 2024
SGidGang.Xaal Shoshannah Greene was born and raised on Haida Gwaii. She is an Eagle from the Staawaas X̲aaydaG̲aay Clan, from Hlkinil llnagaay (Cumshewa village). From a young age, Greene always had a strong drive to be creative. She pursued a Bachelor of Media Arts degree at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, with a major in hand-drawn animation. During these years, she worked
summers at Saahlinda Naay, the Haida Gwaii Museum, the Bill Reid Teaching Centre, and the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art. Not long after, her artistic pursuits shifted from classical animation to classical and contemporary Haida formline. Today, Greene works as a full-time artist, with a creative practice focused on Haida design, both traditional and digital painting, and illustration.
