MID-CAREER ARTIST SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT
Delphine Campbell (Talisiya) I am an aspiring artist from Musqueam Indian Band. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC. I grew up in an artistic family, where my father is a carver, from Musqueam and my late grandmother and great grandmother, who were both prolific weavers from the Squamish Nation, taught young girls how to weave and knit. I was given my traditional name (Talisiya) after my late great grandmother. I started my artistic journey in my early twenties, I started working on small projects which included cedar hats, baskets, bracelets, headbands, and cedar and wool regalia, most projects were made for our traditional ceremonies. My most recent project was a ceremonial blanket which I covered my father when he graduated from Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. I continue to participate in any workshops to enhance my artistic journey and I am inspired by various weavers and love learning new techniques and always finding ways to improve and grow with each project. I had the opportunity to sit and learn from my mentor Debra Sparrow, Angela Marston, Angie Dawson, Tracy Williams, late Ethel Hillaire-Warbus, Jan George and Buddy Joseph.
