Personal Information
Applicants for the YVR Art Foundation Aspiring Artist Award must be between 15 to 20 years of age (born between 2000 and 2005) in 2020
(e.g. Sto:lo, Haida, Selkirk). Contact YVRAF for questions about eligibility.

Describe your art work. For example: What type of art do you do? What materials do you work with? Have you worked with a mentor or taken any art classes or training? Do you do art work on your own, at school or with other artists?

Your personal statement is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself and mention anything that is not covered in this application but that you feel is important for the selection committee to know.

A. Reference Letter

One Reference Letter is required with this application.
Please submit a reference letter from a teacher, mentor or individual with an art background who can speak to your artistic potential.

The Reference Letter must be signed by your reference and include the following information:

  • The full name of the applicant (you)
  • The full name, address, email address and phone number of the person writing the reference
  • The relationship between the applicant and the person writing the reference
  • The length of time the person writing the reference has known the applicant
  • The reasons why the applicant should receive this award

B. Images of Artwork:

The images you provide can be of finished artworks or works in progress.
  • Include up to five photographs of your artwork.
  • You can include self-initiated work as well as work assigned in class.
  • If you submit work that was created with another artist, please name the other artist(s) and identify that the work is a collaboration or that you were an assistant on the project.

Film/video submissions:

  • If you wish to submit an example of your film or video work, we ask that you notify us of how you would like to send/upload the video files by contacting
  • If you are submitting your film or video work for your entire portfolio you may submit no more than two videos at a maximum of five minutes each.

Digital submissions:

  • Use .jpg or .tif file types.
  • Files must have a minimum 1024 x 768 pixel resolution.
  • If you are submitting a movie or video file please contact us for format preferences.

Please list title, dimensions, media and date for each work and ensure that the file names of the pictures submitted in the uploader match the titles in this box.
