Welcome Figures
by Susan A. Point
Greeting visitors in the Musqueum Welcome Area are Susan A. Point's two towering, 5.5 metre red cedar Ne-Tsul-Nuwh
welcome figures. The male and female figures carved out of red cedar,
reflect the carving styles of early Coast Salish culture. Figures such
as these were originally carved as house posts; at the Vancouver
Airport, these 'welcome figures' silently invite travelers to
experience British Columbia.
The entire installation in the Musqueum Welcome Area is the work of Coast Salish women artists.
